body issues - pigmentation disorder

Skin pigmentation disorders are conditions that cause the skin to appear lighter (Vitiligo) or darker (Melasma) than normal, or even blotchy and discoloured (Age Spots). These conditions occur because the body produces too much or too little melanin, a pigment that creates hair, skin, and eye colour. Melanin protects the body by absorbing ultraviolet light. In some cases there are tangible causes, such as sun exposure, drug reactions or genetic inheritance. In other cases, it is not as clear.

Treatment

One method commonly used for treating pigmented areas is called repigmentation. UV light, sometimes combined with medication, is used to stimulate colour-producing cells, much like tanning.

Our Consultant Dermatologist will make an appropriate recommendation for you following a detailed analysis.
